About Me

carli-velocci-author-picMy therapist once asked me why I became a writer. I told her that it was because I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else.

She followed up, asking me what profession I would have if I wasn’t a writer. I couldn’t answer. It would just be a writer.

I’ve been writing since I was little, as most people who write for a living can say, but I found my true calling with culture. I could dissect it, shape it, explain it. I could follow its trends and its history and understand it. I could see its reflection in my everyday life.

My ultimate goal in my journalism is to bring to light the stories that nobody knows about, including profiles of indie developers of video games, reviews of lesser-known games, and interviews with people doing cool things with the gifts they’ve been given. I also do critical analysis of media and the business of making media.

I’ve written for a number of publications, including, but not limited to, Geek.com, the Boston Globe, Vice, Paste Magazine, Polygon, Gizmodo, io9, Inverse, and Bitch Magazine. You can see some of my favorite pieces in the Featured Work section of this website.

My specialty is in pop culture (whether it’s video games, movies, television, books, or anything else), but I’ve also covered technology, specifically on how it interacts with culture and shapes our everyday lives.

Please check out my website and read some of my work. Here I post links to the feature articles I have written and rants on various subjects. I don’t promise family-friendly fun, but you might enjoy it at least.

I am available for freelance opportunities, so if you are interested, please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can find more information about that on my “Contact Me” page.

Carli is a superb editor, writer, and manager who would be a stand-out addition to any publication.
